I am the Chair of the Central Eurasian Studies Department in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University Bloomington. I am also an Associate Professor of Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Central Eurasian Studies. Additionally, I hold roles as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Second Language Studies and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Linguistics. I serve as an Associate Editor for the high-impact language acquisition journal Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism.

I have a linguistics lab on campus, the Central Eurasian Linguistics and Language Acquisition Lab. My research involves both formal phonology and second language acquisition. More specifically, formally, I investigate issues in prosody, prosody-morphology interface, prosody-syntax interface, autosegmental phonology. My research in second language acquisition covers a broader range of phenomema, including also syntax and syntax-prosody and syntax-semantics interface.
Finally, I am the Director of IU’s Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR), which is one of the 16 National Foreign Language Resource Centersin the US, and the only one specifically on Central Eurasian languages.
