Dr. Burcu AK holds a BA degree in English Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University (METU). She received an MA degree in English Language Teaching/TEFL from Bilkent University MA TEFL Program and PhD in the Department of English Language Education at Hacettepe University. After working twelve years as an instructor at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University School of Foreign Languages, she started working as an Assistant Professor Dr. at Bartin University Foreign Language Education Department. Dr. Ak has held administrative positions at both Bartın University and Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University. Currently she is a visiting scholar at University of Georgia Language and Literacy Education Department, Athens, Georgia, USA.
In the field of language education, Dr. Ak published a number of research articles, book chapters, presented at national and international conferences. Besides teaching English to adults at SFL at ZBEUN, she has been educating pre-service English teachers at Bartın University Foreign Language Education Department. She has given a number of undergraduate and graduate courses both in the field of English Language Teaching and teaching Turkish as a foreign Language. She supervised three masters thesis in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, and she has been giving courses for certificate programs and graduate programs in the same field.
In her career, she also organized important events like 15th School of Foreign Languages Directors’ meeting and the 5th International TESOL TURKEY ELT Conference as a host university. She was also the editor in chief of Bartın University Journal of Faculty of Education between 2018-2024. She is currently a researcher in an Erasmus+ KA2 project, 2019-1-TR01-KA204-074155 Speak English MOOC English Language MOOC to Improve Speaking Skills (Strategic Partnership in Adult Learning)2019-2-TR01-ESC11-078437. She also coordinated several TUBİTAK projects in the national and international level.
In the GRIT Team, she sees herself as a researcher, educational consultant, event coordinator and a team member. Besides writing her own project, she hopes to take on responsibilities such as writing project proposals within the team and communicating for potential partnerships with different institutions.
