While working at TÜBİTAK as a research intern through the 2247-C program, he developed a project called Speechia to assist people suffering from Broca’s aphasia through a neurolinguistic software concept. In September 2023, he was chosen to compete with
Speechia in TÜBİTAK’s Falling Walls Lab national final, where three winners out of 18 finalists would have the chance to represent Türkiye in Berlin, Germany.
The biggest highlight of his undergraduate career was winning the national final and going to Berlin in November 2023 with his project. After the presentation, he was listed among The Top 100 Emerging Talents of 2023 by the Falling Walls Foundation in Berlin. His presentation was congratulated by notable figures such as Aziz Sancar, Çağrı Mert Bakırcı, Sarah Springman, and the ELT community in Türkiye.
He participated in the Erasmus+ Student Exchange Program to study at the University of Applied Sciences in Konin, Poland, during the fall term of 2023-2024 for 4.5 months. This experience enriched him with an international perspective, intercultural awareness, and friendships from around the world. His Speechia project was highly regarded in Poland by his psycholinguistics professor, Sylwia Maciejewska, who encouraged him to continue advancing in this field.
Now, Cemalcan’s biggest dream is to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree in a field related to neurolinguistics or brain sciences and to become a prominent innovator, making his country proud again and again.
In his free time, he enjoys playing the transverse flute, cuddling stray cats, and spending time in the ELT library, where he serves as the manager. He is also fond of baking delicious desserts and trying new recipes.
As the youngest and only Gen Z team member of GRIT, he aims to contribute to this project by bringing a fresh perspective through social media content development, event coordination, and creating a bridge between youth and professionals.
